Microbial robustness: concepts, tools and applications.
Lisbeth Olsson received her PhD degree in Applied Microbiology 1994 at Lund University. She became Professor in Quantitative Fermentation Physiology at Technical University of Denmark in 2006 and moved to Chalmers University of Technology in 2008, where she is Professor in Industrial Biotechnology. She is codirector and PI in Wallenberg Wood Science Center, a research center aiming at developing novel, sustainable material from wood. In addition, she is Secretary General for Research Infrastructure at the Swedish Research Council. Lisbeth Olsson works in the area of Industrial Biotechnology focusing on design and use of enzymes and microorganisms in processes where plant cell wall material is converted to fuels, chemicals and material, food ingredients and pharmaceuticals. An important driving force for her in research is to contribute to sustainable solutions for the bioeconomy. In that perspective her research interest focus on carbohydrate active enzymes and their action on biomass polymers. Microbial robustness as a concept and its utilization in bioprocesses is another key interest. Lisbeth Olsson is co-author of more than 250 papers and 5 patents. Lisbeth is an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg. She received the Ahrrenius plaketten and was Charles Scott Awardee 2018.
